The 2010 Gator Bowl is now in the books, bringing an end to Florida State Head Football Coach Bobby Bowden's illustrious career. Coach Bowden retired earlier in the year, effective at the end of the 2009-2010 season, leaving behind an impressive legacy. The Seminoles sent their coach off with a memorable final game, defeating the 18th ranked and heavily favored West Virginia University Mountaineers 33-21 in Jacksonville's Alltell Stadium.

On November 1, 2009, I had the chance to shoot an NFL game in Chicago as the guest of the Bears' Owner/Chairman Mr. Mike McCaskey. Mr. McCaskey and his family are the most kind, generous and genuinely personable people you could ever meet. I've put together a sample of the photos I managed to get while on the field. If you love color, detail and some of nature's most beautiful and delicate subjects, flowers must rank at or near the top of anyone's list of subjects that fit the bill. Aside from the challenges inherent to outdoor macro photography, photographing flowers offers all of the criteria which lends to the creation of beutiful images. I have put together a collection of my floral  images into this slide show which includes a variety of flowers: from lilies to orchids, from the common to the more unique, and from the delicate to the hardy.

After a few years of traveling around the Western United States, I have finally been able to put together a collection of images that includes scenic vistas, wildlife, nature and impressive man made structures west of the Mississippi. Tempted to post them in color, I resited and decided to go with a Black & White format that eliminates capturing attention simply because of color. There remain many, many places out west that I would love to visit and photograph, and hopefully someday I will be able to add those photos to this collection.

The 2009 USTA Pro Circuit Challenger is in the books. Upsets were the norm and in the end, John Isner defeated Donald Young 7-5, 6-4. Americans Eric Butorac and Scott Lipsky defeated the British duo of Colin Fleming and Ken Scupski 6-1, 6-4 to round out the competition. One big surprise during the tournament was the play of three Florida State University players. Jean-Ives Aubone won his first round singles match and then lost a tight three set match in the round of 16. In doubles, Maciek Sykut and Vahid Mizradeh also won their first round match and lost in the quarters after serving for the match in the second set.

He's the man. When it comes to smackin' a golf ball or ramming in the hole, he's head and shoulders above everyone else who dares get in his way. After spending two days photographing the 2009 Tavistock Cup in Orlando, I ended up with several photos which depict various emotions Tiger displays while on the course. My favorites are those depicting Tiger with his ear to ear set of pearly whites. When Tiger gives that smile, his entire face lights up. Florida State wrapped up its season with a 9-4 overall record after its 42-13 Champs Bowl victory over the Wisconsin Badgers in Orlando, Florida. Considering last season's 7-6 season, it would seem that FSU is finally headed in the right direction. Highlights of the season were wins against arch rival Miami (in Miami) and ACC foes Virginia Tech, Clemson, Maryland, and NC State. FSU also defeated Colorado in Jacksonville.

The Tour de Georgia is the premiere cycling race in the United States. Over the years, it has featured world class riders such as Lance Armstrong, who use the race as test of their fitness before crossing the Atlantic for the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France and the Vuelta de Espaņa. The 2008 Tour de Georgia was no exception, with world class riders (Levi Leipheimer, George Hincapie, Tyler Hamilton, etc.) competing in the week long event.

The 2008 Tavistock Cup took place in Orlando, Florida and Isleworth Country Club defeated Lake Nona Country Club to retake possession of the Cup after last year's defeat. J.B. Holmes, making his first appearance, took home the low medalist award on the second day of play, earning $500,000 for his round of 68. Ian Poulter (Lake Nona) took second place, followed by a tie for third between Mark O'meara and Tiger Woods, both playing for Isleworth. Holmes also won the long drive contest as well as closest to the pin honors for a hat trick of prizes. Click here or on the image above to open a slide show of images from the event.

Every now and then, an opportunity comes along that truly qualifies as a once in a lifetime experience. Such was the case when I was invited to spend a day on a golf course with Jack Nicklaus as he played a round. Taking a stroll with arguably the best golfer in the history of the game was everything I had hoped it to be. Mr. Nicklaus is not only a living legend in the context of the game of golf, but he is one of the most gracious gentlemen I have ever had the pleasure to meet.

The PGA Tour kicks off its season with the annual Mercedes Benz Championship, an event that limits the field to the previous year's tournament winners. Held on Maui's beautiful Plantation Course in early January, this year's event enjoyed favorable weather conditions and several players were in contention until the end. Ultimately, Daniel Chopra and Steve Stricker were tied at 18-under and headed into a sudden death playoff that lasted until daylight began to fade. On the fourth playoff hole, Stricker missed a putt to hand Chopra the win and a check for $1.1 Million Dollars. There is more to a day at Kapalua than golf, however. Thus, I have included photos of various scenes from the island of Maui which I captured. To open the slide show, click here or on the image to the left.

The 2007 Florida State Seminoles kicked off the football season with great hopes of returning to the upper echelons of college football after somewhat disappointing seasons. With the addition of several new coaches, a veteran defense and talent at the skill positions, FSU was favored to win its conference division and compete for the overall ACC Conference Championship but the 'Noles faltered and only managed another 7-6 season. Follow the Seminoles from game to game as they tried to regain some of the swagger of past Seminole teams. I have found the most beautiful place on this earth, and it is Augusta National. The first time I wandered onto the course after passing by the clubhouse, I was overwhelmed by the beauty which unfolded before me. As a golfer, I was amazed by the apparent simplicity of the course which does not rely on hidden hazards or manufactured difficulty to bedevil players. The difficulty of the course lies with the plateaud, multi-tiered greens which make par a fleeting thought unless one hits a specific target on the greens. That requires players to position their tee shots properly in order to gain the necessary angles to the pin placements. Spend the day wandering around Augusta with me as we take in the sights that make Augusta National what it is. Click here or on the image to the left to view a photo gallery from the 2007 Masters.

Here they are...photos from the annual Tavistock Cup golf match held in Orlando, Florida are finalized and ready for viewing. The Tavistock Cup is an annual Ryder Cup-styled golf competition featuring the best players in the world, including Tiger Woods, Ernie Els and Retief Goosen. The teams consist of ten players, each of whom has a residence in either Lake Nona or Isleworth, two of the premiere golf communities in the Orlando, Florida area. There are certain sporting venues throughout the world that symbolize a given sport - Lambeau Field (football), St. Andrews (golf), Yankee Stadium (baseball) and The Rose Bowl (college football) come to mind. Another unquestionably is The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a/k/a Wimbledon, in the world of tennis. As a former tennis player, having the chance to walk around the facility and relive past matches was a dream come true; having the chance to photograph the venue made it that much better. My goal was not so much to shoot action, but to try to create a variety of images that captured the atmosphere of a typical tournament day.
